WASHINGTON (7News) — The year marks the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and Chair of America250 Rosie Rios has ways you can celebrate and give back.
“We’re trying to make 2026 the largest year of volunteer hours ever recorded in our country, with America Gives. So we launched this on January One. We’re taking it all the way through December 31 we want to increase volunteerism across the country and engage all 350 million Americans in this meaningful effort,” said Rios.
“Martin Luther King’s Day is coming up. It’s one of the two federally recognized days of service in our country, and we want to make giving back a year-round effort. So a better way to recognize this historical milestone for our country than by giving back,” said Rios.

America250 will also be giving away a million dollars to 250 people who register on its website and track their hours. Each person chosen will be able to donate $4,000 to a registered charity of their choice, said Rios.
The organization is also working to preserve historic American stories.
“Our American story is reaching all across the country to unbury the buried treasure of stories never told. We are taking our Airstreams and our Dodge truck, our Ram trucks, and we are going around the country to colleges and universities, to festivals, and again, trying to make Main Street front and center of this effort,” said Rios.
