TOWSON, Md. (WBFF) — Apple announced that its Towson Town Center location will close June 11, citing the departure of several retailers from the mall and “declining conditions.”
The statement, released Thursday, confirmed that the Towson location would be one of three stores closed this year along with outlets in Trumbull, Connecticut, and Escondido, California. The Towson Apple store was the first U.S. location to unionize in 2022.
“As we continue investing to expand and enhance our retail stores and offerings worldwide, we remain deliberate about evaluating our existing locations to ensure that we can meet our customers’ needs in the best way,” according to a statement from Apple sent to The Baltimore Sun. “Following the departure of several retailers and declining conditions at Trumbull Mall, the Shops at North County, and Towson Town Center, we’ve made the difficult decision to close our stores at these locations.”
Members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers said Apple’s choice to close its Towson location surprised union workers. Towson Apple store union employees were members of the IAM Union’s Coalition of Organized Retail Employees.
