UNITED STATES — In a lighthearted moment, Artemis II astronauts proposed naming two newly identified moon craters — one for Carroll Wiseman, the late wife of Cockeysville native astronaut Reid Wiseman, and another for their Orion spacecraft, Integrity.
“On the near and far side boundary, and sometimes visible from Earth, the crew suggested an unnamed crater be designated Carroll in honor of Reid Weisman’s late wife, Carroll Taylor Wiseman, who passed away on May 17, 2020,” the NASA mission blog states.
Wiseman wept as fellow crewman Jeremy Hansen radioed the request to Mission Control, and all four astronauts embraced in tears.
“Such a majestic view out here,” Wiseman said once he regained his composure.
