Gas prices in Baltimore have dropped by 7 cents per gallon over the past week, now averaging $2.90 per gallon, according to a recent survey by GasBuddy.

Despite this decrease, prices remain 9.7 cents higher than a month ago but are 26.3 cents lower than the same time last year.

The survey, which covered 663 stations in Baltimore, also revealed a significant price range within the city, with the cheapest station offering gas at $2.45 per gallon and the most expensive at $3.19 per gallon.

In comparison, the national average price of gasoline has seen a slight increase of 1.2 cents per gallon over the last week, now averaging $2.84 per gallon. This national figure is up 5.4 cents from a month ago but remains 24.9 cents lower than a year ago. Meanwhile, the national average price of diesel has risen by 2.9 cents, reaching $3.614 per gallon.

Neighboring areas have experienced varied changes in gas prices. Washington D.C. saw a 2.1-cent drop to $3.05 per gallon. In contrast, York experienced a price increase of 3.4 cents, bringing the average to $3.20 per gallon.

Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, noted that while the national average price of gasoline only edged slightly higher last week, significant price movements were observed, particularly in West Coast states like California. “Most states saw relatively minor fluctuations, but we’re now starting to see seasonal trends take hold on the West Coast, with those pressures expected to gradually push eastward in the weeks ahead,” De Haan said.

He added that despite a slight dip in oil prices due to reduced geopolitical risk, strengthening seasonal factors could drive the national average back above $3 per gallon during the spring.
