Baltimore man convicted in murder of Cameron Paige faces up to 125 years in prison

A Baltimore man was found guilty of second-degree murder and other charges in the 2025 deadly shooting of Cameron Paige, Baltimore City State’s Attorney Ivan Bates announced Friday.

Jaden Shanks also was convicted of attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, using a firearm in a crime of violence and related firearms offenses.

He faces up to 125 years in prison at sentencing, according to the State’s Attorney’s Office. A sentencing date was not provided.

Police responded to the 400 block of West Saratoga Street around 8:37 p.m. Nov. 21, 2025, after a report of gunfire.

Officers found Paige with gunshot wounds and a woman who had been shot in the leg. Both were taken to a hospital; Paige died, and the woman was treated and released.

Surveillance video showed Paige and the woman encountering Shanks near a store, according to prosecutors.

After an altercation, Paige pushed Shanks to the ground. Video then showed muzzle flashes, prosecutors said.

Paige ran several car lengths before collapsing. Shanks fired additional shots before leaving the area, according to the prosecution.

Shanks’ two stepchildren, ages 7 and 11, were in the line of fire and were running away as he fired, prosecutors said.

Detectives arrested Shanks at a hotel on Frankford Avenue on Dec. 30, 2025. A handgun recovered from a safe in his room contained DNA matching Shanks, according to the State’s Attorney’s Office.

Today’s conviction sends a clear message: if you choose to carry an illegal firearm and use it to settle a dispute, you will be held accountable for your actions. My office will not tolerate gun violence as a means of resolving conflicts. When individuals turn to firearms instead of peaceful solutions, the consequences can be devastating, leaving victims, families, and entire communities to suffer,” said Bates, via press release. “Ultimately, when guns are used to settle disputes, everybody loses. We will continue to aggressively prosecute those who illegally carry guns in our communities and use them to threaten the safety of others.

In a recorded statement after being advised of his rights, Shanks admitted he was the shooter but said he took the gun from Paige while acting in self-defense, prosecutors said.

Shanks was prohibited from possessing a regulated firearm because of a prior conviction for possession with intent to distribute in Baltimore, according to the office.
