A Baltimore man was sentenced to a total of 11 years in federal prison for armed robberies, a carjacking, and assaulting a federal officer, the Maryland U.S. Attorney’s Office announced Thursday.

23-year-old Sharif Northington was sentenced to 10 years in prison for interfering with commerce by robbery, and using, carrying, and brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.

Additionally, Northington received a consecutive one-year sentence for intentionally assaulting a Deputy U.S. Mashal while at a U.S. Courthouse in Baltimore.

Northington threatened and then assaulted a U.S. Marshal that was escorting him to his cell in September 2024 following a court proceeding.

In November 2022, Northington conspired with 27-year-old Devin Grimes and 21-year-old John Hyman, both from Baltimore, to commit armed commercial robberies and at least one armed carjacking.

During each robbery and carjacking, the men used a firearm while demanding money, a vehicle, and/or other items.

Specifically, on November 29, Northington, Grimes, and Hyman entered a northeast Baltimore 7-Eleven store while wearing masks and hoods.

Grimes pulled out a handgun and then proceeded to rob the store with Northington and Hyman.

The men allegedly stole money from the cash register and then ran out.

But what they didn’t know is the stolen cash included a money tracker which helped law enforcement track their movements.

As a result, both Baltimore Police (BPD) and Baltimore County Police (BCPD) dispatched officers, detectives, and aviation squads to find the suspects.

The three men then went to a carry-out restaurant, less than a mile away.

Grimes went to the back of the restaurant and pulled out a handgun, before confronting a delivery driver and robbing him of the keys in his pocket.

Grimes then stolen money from the cash register and all three men ran out of the store and into the delivery man’s vehicle.

BPD and BCPD aviation units quickly found the three men.

During their arrests, officers recovered a loaded Smith & Wesson .40 caliber pistol, money, and a money tracker from Grimes.

Law enforcement also found additional cash in the vehicle.

In December 2024, Grimes was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison. Then in September 2025, Hyman was sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in the crimes.

Now, Northington will face 10 years in prison.
