Baltimore police investigate recent carjackings involving ‘bump-and-rob’ strategy

The Baltimore Police Department issued a public safety alert Wednesday as officers investigate recent carjackings involving several suspects using a “bump-and-rob” strategy.

Suspects may follow or target vehicles, and in some cases, they intentionally strike a vehicle, often from behind. When the driver exits their vehicle to check for damage, that’s when police say the suspects approach, threaten the victim and then steal the vehicle.

The police department said drivers should do the following:

  • Stay inside your vehicle after a minor crash if something feels suspicious
  • Call 911 immediately
  • Drive to a well-lit, populated area if possible
  • Stay alert and aware of your surroundings
  • Have your keys ready when approaching your vehicle

If you’re confronted, don’t resist and call 911 as soon as it is safe to do so, according to officials.
