Smoke from the Canadian wildfires is creating dangerous air conditions across Maryland.

Baltimore is under a code purple air quality alert with state and city leaders urging residents to stay inside.

Residents across the city say they just want this gone.

Officials say the air isn’t just unpleasant to look , it’s also dangerous to breathe.

β€œI just feel sorry for those who have lung problems, breathing conditions, and such,” said Gilbert Meile.

Health officials say children, older adults, pregnant women, and people with asthma, heart disease, or other respiratory conditions face the greatest risk. Even healthy adults can experience coughing, irritated eyes, or shortness of breath after prolonged exposure.

Tourists are even thinking twice before venturing out into the city for their vacations.

β€œI was just like, okay, what am I going to do today? We can stay in, or we can go out. As soon as we went out, you could smell it,” said Gloria Young on her visit from Mississippi.

For residents trying to enjoy the harbor views or just walking their dogs, they say that they hope relief comes fast.

Officials say residents should continue checking air quality forecasts before heading outside.
