Bank robbery suspect surrenders after brief chase on I-895

A bank robber is in custody after police say he fled with a large amount of cash from an Eastern Avenue bank, then pulled over and surrendered following a brief chase on I-895.

According to police, officers responded around 9:30 a.m. to the 4800 block of Eastern Avenue for a reported bank robbery.

Investigators said that when officers arrived, they learned an unknown man wearing all black clothing and armed with a shotgun had assaulted a customer and robbed the bank of a large amount of U.S. currency before fleeing.

Police said a description of the suspect’s vehicle was provided to officers and shared with Citywide Dispatch.

Foxtrot and members of the Regional Auto Theft Task Force located the vehicle, and after a brief pursuit, the suspect pulled to the side of the highway and surrendered to police without further incident in the southbound lane of I-895.
