Barnes & Noble plans to open a bookstore at Lutherville Station in Baltimore County later this year or in early 2027, the shopping center’s owner said Monday.

The bookseller signed a lease for nearly 18,000 square feet in a renovated retail space that once housed a Borders bookstore and now is used by Overstock Outlet.

The store, which will include a B&N Café, is expected to help anchor the proposed mixed-use, transit-oriented development planned for the site at York and Ridgely roads, Lutherville Station LLC said. Plans to transform a parking lot next to Lutherville’s light rail station into apartments, shops and public space have faced community opposition and delays for years.

Mark Renbaum, a Lutherville Station and MLR Partners principal, said in Monday’s announcement that Barnes & Noble was drawn by the area’s strong demographics and direct access to transit.
