MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (7News) — A 10-year-old girl was attacked by a beaver Thursday at Seneca Creek State Park in Maryland, according to the state’s Department of Natural Resources.
The girl was canoeing with a group at summer camp around 3:30 p.m. when it happened. Camp counselors jumped in to stop the beaver, which escaped into the water.
The girl had three bites to her leg. She was treated at a Bethesda hospital.

Wildlife officials are now searching for the beaver.
The area near Berryville Road, close to the Potomac River, will be closed as a result. The nearby parking lot will also be restricted, but other areas of the park will stay open.
This is the latest of several beaver attacks in Maryland in recent months. Two attacks happened a little over 36 miles away at Cunningham Falls State Park.

A 13-year-old swimmer was attacked by a beaver July 26, and a 19-year-old fisherman was attacked on August 5.
Both of those beavers were caught and euthanized after testing positive for rabies.
