Brandon E. Schaefer, Nationwide Automotive Group part-owner & GM, dies unexpectedly at 55

Brandon E. Schaefer, a longtime automotive industry leader and devoted family man, died unexpectedly April 3, 2026. He was 55.

Born Feb. 3, 1971, Schaefer built both a career and a life centered on dedication to family, business and community.

He was married to his wife, Karen, for 29 years and was the father of three daughters: Stephanie, Kristin and Kylie.

Schaefer was part-owner and general manager of Nationwide Automotive Group, a family-owned business that has operated for more than six decades.

Colleagues and family members said he was known for his leadership, integrity and commitment to the company and its employees.

A graduate of Northwood University in Florida, Schaefer earned a bachelor’s degree in automotive marketing and management, preparing him for a lifelong career in the automotive field.

Beyond his professional life, Schaefer was known for his enthusiasm for cooking and entertaining, as well as his love of motocross and watersports.

He enjoyed spending time on the water and with family and friends.

He also supported charitable efforts, particularly the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, contributing through years of fundraising and sponsorship.

Schaefer is survived by his father, William H. Schaefer Jr.; his stepmother, Vicki Romine Schaefer; brothers William H. Schaefer III and Kevin Schaefer (Peggy); and his sister, Robyn, along with extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Delores “Dolly” Schaefer, and his brother, Daniel.

Visitation is scheduled for April 16 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Ruck Funeral Home in Towson.

Burial will be private, and a celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Breakthrough T1D, formerly known as JDRF.

Schaefer will be remembered, family members said, for his generosity, passion for life and deep devotion to those closest to him.
