Child dies in west Baltimore fire, city’s second fire fatality of 2026

A child died in a house fire in west Baltimore early Saturday morning, marking the city’s second fire fatality in 2026, according to authorities.

On March 7, around 3:30 a.m., Baltimore City Fire crews responded to a reported dwelling fire in the 500 block of W. Mosher Street.

Once there, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and flames, prompting them to declare it a working fire.

Crews initiated fire suppression operations and began primary searches of the residence.

During their search, officials said they found a juvenile in cardiac arrest inside the home.

Life-saving measures were immediately performed, and the juvenile was taken to a nearby hospital, where they were later pronounced deceased, authorities reported.

Only one house was directly impacted by the fire, and no other structures were affected.

Officials noted that no firefighters were injured in this incident.
