Crews from several fire departments battled two separate fires at the vacant Springfield Hospital Center in Sykesville on Saturday morning.

Shortly after 7:30 a.m., firefighters were called to the Springfield Hospital Center, located in the 1100 block of 2nd Street, where they found a fire through the roof of one of the vacant buildings, officials said.

Firefighters faced adversity as several hydrants were out of service, so a second alarm and tankers were requested to help with the second building and water supply.

A small fire in the second building was quickly extinguished, according to authorities.

It took crews 3.5 hours to extinguish the fires.

No injuries were reported, according to fire officials.

The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal is investigating the fires as arson.
