Elkton home fully engulfed in flames after fire reported night before

CECIL COUNTY, Md. (WBFF) — A house fire in Elkton displaced four people and caused an estimated $400,000 in damage early Saturday morning, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal.

The Singerly Fire Company responded to the three-story home at 125 Walnut Lane in Cecil County on August 29 at 4:55 a.m. after a passerby reported that the home was fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters responded to the same home the night before, on Aug. 28 at 9:08 p.m., after a resident reported smoke coming from the attic.

Crews found a small, smoldering fire involving the home’s electrical system. Officials said the fire was controlled, power was secured to the dwelling, and emergency crews later cleared the scene.

The following morning, a passerby called emergency services to report that the home was fully engulfed in flames. Officials said firefighters responded and observed the same.

The fire displaced four people and caused an estimated $400,000 in damage, according to the press release.

No injuries were reported.

The area of origin remains under investigation.

Investigators also have not determined a preliminary cause, but said they could not rule out the original electrical issue as the cause of the second fire.
