Towson, Md. (WBFF) — A family is calling for justice after investigators said a mother was found murdered inside her home in Towson.
Michael Burnett, 37, is charged with one count of first degree murder and a weapons violation in connection to the death of India Johnson, 32.
Officers responded to the Cromwell Valley Apartments in the unit block of Treeway Court at approximately 11:53 p,m. on Aug. 2.
According to newly obtained court documents, on the night of the murder Johnson’s sister received a text message from Johnson’s son telling her to call 911.

Investigators wrote the son had reportedly told his aunt his mother and Mike were arguing with each other at which time he heard a gunshot.
Responding officers forced entry into the apartment and inside say they found three children hiding in their bedrooms and Johnson inside her bedroom with a gunshot wound to her face.
The mother was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the family, the children included Johnson’s son, daughter and niece.
Burnett, Johnson’s believed boyfriend, was arrested Aug. 10.
His bond hearing was postponed the next day at the request of the Defense who informed the Judge that Burnett’s mother had obtained private counsel.

In court documents investigators connected Burnett to the murder through witness statements, MVA records, cell phone data and surveillance footage.
Specifically, investigators wrote Burnett’s cell phone placed him in the vicinity of the homicide when it occurred.
Investigators also detailed their interview with Burnett and his mother days after Johnson’s murder.
Investigators said Burnett referred to Johnson in the past tense and after being informed of her murder told detectives he had been at her apartment that night but left around 9:30 p.m.
Burnett was arrested and charged with the crime.
The family of Johnson declined to comment on camera but said they want justice for India.
The investigation is on-going.
