First Lady Melania Trump took a stand against what she described as “baseless lies” that have falsely connected her with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
She addressed the media during a news conference that was held on Thursday afternoon.
“The lies linking me with the disgraceful Jeffrey Epstein need to end today,” the first lady said.
“The individuals lying about me are devoid of ethical standards: humility and respect,” she added. “I do not object to their ignorance, but rather I do drag their mean-spirited attempts to defame my reputation.”
The first lady went on to say that she has “never been friends with Epstein or his accomplice, referencing Ghislaine Maxwell. She said she and her husband, President Donald Trump, were invited to the same parties as Epstein and Maxwell.
“Overlapping in social circles is common in New York City and Palm Beach,” she said, as the couple has properties in both areas.
“The false smears about me from mean-spirited and politically motivated individuals and entities looking to cause damage to my good name, to gain financially and climb politically, must stop,” she added.
