Fuel tanker catches fire on I-795 in Baltimore County, prompting closure

BALTIMORE (WBFF) — A fuel tanker caught fire in Baltimore County late Friday night, according to authorities.

On September 11, at 11:15 p.m., firefighters responded to a report of a fire in the area of I-795 and MD-140 near Westminster Pike.

Upon arrival, fire officials said they encountered a tanker truck carrying roughly 8,000 gallons of fuel on fire.

First responders worked to secure the fire site and safely evacuate the area.

HazMat crews also responded to help extinguish the fire, and representatives from the Maryland Department of the Environment were on the scene.

The fire was extinguished around 12:45 a.m., but the area was closed for an extended period so officials could conduct a clean-up operation.

No one was reported injured, according to the Baltimore County Fire Department.

On Sept. 12 at 7:32 a.m., the Maryland State Highway Administration reported that all lanes were open following the incident.

“It was a long night for everyone involved. Thank you to all of the fire, EMS, hazmat, law enforcement, highway, and environmental crews who were out there working the scene and cleanup,” the White Marsh Volunteer Fire Company said in a Facebook post.

Officials said Maryland State Police are handling the investigation.
