Governor Wes Moore announced on Thursday that the Maryland Department of Commerce is supporting tech defense company, Lufburrow & Company (LufCo), in opening a research facility in Aberdeen, Md. This comes as part of the state’s initiative to support small businesses and invest in developing the next generation of innovators.

“Maryland’s powerful innovation economy needs strategists, engineers and problem-solvers like the team at LufCo,” Moore said. “With skills in areas like machine learning, cryptographic systems, prototyping and more, the company puts its tremendous talent to work for its clients, and we’re proud to see them expand and create new jobs here in Maryland.”

Support from the state is through the Advantage Maryland program, giving LufCo a $600,000 conditional loan.

Harford County is also giving a $60,000 grant to complete necessary infrastructure upgrades to the site.

LufCo is a woman-owned business that specializes in engineering tech systems in the defense industry.

“As they expand, the company will find an incredible pool of talent to draw from – our highly-skilled and technologically-advanced workforce – and will thrive in Maryland’s advanced manufacturing sector,” said Maryland Department of Commerce Secretary Harry Coker, Jr.

Their clients include the Department of Defense, IBM, the U.S. Navy and more.

LufCo’s new facility will be located at 1204 Technology Drive, the former Battelle Eastern Science and Technology Center. They currently employ 100 employees and expect to create 120 more full-time jobs with the new facility.
