Harford school board to pick new superintendent Tuesday after fast-tracked search

The Harford County Board of Education will announce its decision for the district’s next superintendent Tuesday, ending a search that was significantly faster than those in neighboring jurisdictions and could cost up to $38,000.

Board of Education President Lauren Paige confirmed the board will go into closed session around 3 p.m. Tuesday to decide between two finalists for the position — interim Superintendent Dyann Mack and Abingdon Elementary Principal Stacey Gerringer.

Harford’s application process for the superintendent position was not seamless, despite the short application window.

The application was announced April 8 with a deadline of April 17 and outlined numerous requirements for applicants, including the requirement that applicants be a resident of Harford County for at least three years — a provision that was added due to stakeholder feedback, but was later found to violate state law.
