BALTIMORE, MD (WBFF) — An asylum-seeker rear-ended by Immigration and Customs Enforcement was discharged from a hospital late Sunday into ICE custody at the Baltimore holding facility, according to his attorneys.
Ever Alvarenga Rios suffered numerous injuries after a collision Thursday with an Immigration and Customs Enforcement vehicle on Haven Street in Highlandtown, according to the Baltimore Police Department. The Department of Homeland Security said in a statement that two ICE officers were also taken to local hospitals for injuries suffered in the crash.
Clarissa Lindsey, one of Alvarenga Rios’ attorneys, said ICE had not allowed them access to their client while he was in the hospital, and they sought access again at the holding facility on Monday.
“It is a due process violation, under the 5th and 14th amendments,” Lindsey told The Baltimore Sun in an email. “All persons inside of the United States are entitled to counsel.”
