Judge denied Mayor Scott’s motion to dismiss IG’s records access lawsuit

BALTIMORE (WBFF) — A Baltimore City Circuit Court judge decided on Friday Inspector General Isabel Cumming’s records access case against the Mayor’s office cannot be dismissed and will move forward, according to court documents.

Previously, Cumming filed a lawsuit accusing Mayor Scott and his administration unlawfully restricted her office’s access to city records, treating the OIG like any other member of the public by requiring requests go through the traditional Maryland Public Information Act, MPIA, process.

The Mayor’s office argued to have the case dismissed, saying the OIG has no legal authority to demand unrestricted access to records.

“The jurisdiction of OIG is not in conflict with or restricted by the MPIA,” said the court documents.
