Laurel Cinco de Mayo celebration chaos: 1 arrested in stabbing, search ongoing for shooter

A major investigation is underway after a shooting and stabbing that happened during Cinco de Mayo celebrations in Laurel, Maryland.

This all unfolded near the Amigos Mexican Grill and Longhorn Steakhouse at the Laurel Shopping Center in the 13600 block of Baltimore Avenue on Tuesday night, the Laurel Police Department.

The first incident was in regards to a domestic-related stabbing. A Howard County man, 26-year-old Shon Juan Cook Jr., was arrested and charged in connection with the stabbing.

It was isolated and not connected to the shooting, police said.

The shooting later happened in front of the Longhorn Steakhouse. Investigators have reviewed video and released photos of the suspected shooter. It’s unclear, at this point, what may have led up to the shooting.

The victims in both the isolated stabbing and shooting were taken to the hospital and are expected to be okay, police said.
