WASHINGTON (7News) — President Donald Trump released new conceptual renderings Friday of a planned overhaul of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, part of a major project he says will temporarily shut down the venue’s entertainment operations.
Trump shared two images of what he described as the “new, highly improved Trump Kennedy Center” on his social media platform, showing plans for a big renovation and reconstruction of the performing arts complex.

The venue, located along the Potomac River in Washington, D.C., hosts thousands of performances annually and serves as the country’s premier space for theater, music, dance, and cultural programming.
According to Trump, the Trump Kennedy Center will close July 4, 2026, coinciding with the 250th anniversary of the United States, to begin construction on what he called a “new and spectacular entertainment complex.”
Trump previously announced the plan in February, saying the closure would last about two years while construction, revitalization, and rebuilding take place at the historic Washington venue.
The Kennedy Center’s board previously approved a name change in late 2025.
In a December statement, the venue’s board said it voted unanimously to rename the institution “The Donald J. Trump and the John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts.”
According to the statement, trustees said the decision recognized Trump, who serves as chairman, for helping stabilize the organization financially and preserving the institution.
“The new Trump Kennedy Center reflects the unequivocal bipartisan support for America’s cultural center for generations to come,” said Vice President of Public Relations Roma Daravi.
