The Homeland Security spokesperson said that Border Patrol first encountered Melendez-Umanzor in March 2024 when he came into the U.S. illegally. He was then released into the country by the Biden administration.
“Under President Trump and Secretary Mullin, if you break the law, you will face the consequences. Criminal illegal aliens are not welcome in the U.S.,” the spokesperson added.

The shooting happened around 1:50 a.m. Tuesday in the 8100 block of 15th Avenue. Officers found both girls with gunshot wounds. Davalos, who is from Silver Spring, died at the scene.
Investigators with the Prince George’s County Police Department believe Melendez-Umanzor knew the girls and that the shooting stemmed from an argument.
