Man arrested after shooting brother during domestic dispute in Abingdon

ABINGDON, Md. (WBFF) — A man allegedly shot his brother on Tuesday morning in Abingdon, according to the Harford County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO).

On Sept. 1, around 1:00 a.m., deputies responded to a reported shooting in the 4000 block of Sharilynn Drive.

Once there, authorities found a 65-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body. The man was transported to a local trauma center, where he remains in critical but stable condition.

Major Case Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators from the HCSO Investigative Services Bureau assumed control of the investigation.

Investigative findings indicate the shooting stemmed from a domestic argument between two brothers.

The victim’s brother, Joseph Ray, a 66-year-old man, was taken into custody at the scene without incident.

He was transported to the Harford County Detention Center and charged with attempted first and second-degree murder and possession of a regulated firearm, ammunition by a prohibited person, and possession of a firearm in the commission of a crime.

Ray is currently awaiting initial Judicial Review.

Detectives from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division have assumed responsibility for the investigation and are working to establish the sequence of events, motive, and all contributing factors.
