
CARROLL COUNTY, Md. (WBFF) — Maryland State police announced the arrest of a man in connection with a reported double shooting at a restaurant in Carroll County on Friday night.
On April 24, around 9:30 p.m., officers responded to the responded to a reported shooting at a restaurant located in the unit block of Liberty Road in Eldersburg.
Once there, officers found two victims with apparent gunshot wounds.
The victims were identified as Brooks Sandoval, 60, of Hampstead, and David Hopwood, 50, of Sykesville.
Both were taken to a local trauma center for medical treatment.
Officers later found the suspect, 52-year-old Matthew Tyler Hanks of Sykesville, who was outside the restaurant and was taken into custody.
Hanks was charged with two counts of first-degree assault and other related charges.
Preliminary investigation revealed the shooting occurred outside the rear of the restaurant after an altercation took place between the three men, police reported.
Authorities said they believe all three men knew each other before the incident occurred.
A handgun that was believed to have been used during the shooting has been located.
Police stated they do not believe there is any threat to the public.
