Man charged with murder after deadly shooting in West Baltimore

A 40-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal shooting in West Baltimore that killed a 36-year-old man earlier this year, Baltimore police said.

Investigators arrested Derrick Ashe Jr. in connection with the shooting death of Jemel Dixon, which occurred in the 1000 block of West North Avenue.

Police say the homicide happened on January 18, at about 4:48 a.m., an officer on routine patrol was flagged down by a citizen who reported an incident near Linden Avenue and West North Avenue. Responding officers found Dixon suffering from an apparent life-threatening gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital by medics, where he later died.

On February 12, Ashe was arrested in the 1900 block of Division Street and taken to the Central Booking Intake Facility.

He has been charged with first- and second-degree murder, assault and handgun violations.
