PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. (7News) — A man convicted of killing a 27-year-old during a carjacking at a Prince George’s County gas station in 2017 has been sentenced to life in prison, with all but 60 years suspended, prosecutors announced Monday.
Furl John Williams, 33, was sentenced after a jury convicted him of murder, armed carjacking, armed robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in the killing of Wayne Pope.
According to the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office, Williams shot Pope at an Exxon gas station on Silver Hill Road in May 2017 while trying to steal his car.

“Today’s sentence reflects our commitment to holding those who choose violence fully accountable,” State’s Attorney Tara Jackson said in a statement. “While no sentence can undo the tremendous loss suffered by Mr. Pope’s family, it reinforces that those who commit violent crimes in our community will be held responsible for their actions.”

Williams was also found guilty in the 2017 shooting death of 19-year-old Amaru Amir Santos Johnson, who was killed at a house party in Germantown.
