A Maryland man was sentenced to 19 years in prison for using a woman’s personal information and identity to solicit sexual encounters and for violating probation, according to Frederick County officials.

Prosecutors said John P. Davis, 44, of Thurmont, was sentenced in Frederick County Circuit Court after pleading guilty to using personal identifying information to encourage another to commit a sexual crime.

The judge sentenced Davis to 20 years, with all but 10 suspended, along with a consecutive 10-year sentence for violating probation, for a total of 19 years to serve after credit for time already served.

The case stems from a January 2024 investigation by the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office into fraudulent Craigslist posts that impersonated the victim.

Authorities said Davis created posts advertising the victim for sexual services, including her full name, photos, home address, phone number, and age, and encouraged people to come to her home “anytime.”

The victim reported receiving numerous harassing calls and messages, and expressed fear for her safety and the safety of her child.

Investigators said the posts were paid for using Davis’ credit card, and video evidence captured him admitting to creating them.

During sentencing, Judge Julia Martz-Fisher called the crime “hideous,” adding, “The public is not safe with you walking the streets.”

Upon release, Davis will serve five years of supervised probation, with conditions including no contact with the victim, mental health treatment, psychological counseling, and a psycho-sexual evaluation.
