A man was fatally shot, and two Prince George’s County police officers were injured during a traffic stop in Hyattsville, Maryland, late Thursday evening, police said.

The shooting took place at around 8:30 p.m. near 23rd Avenue and Ager Road.

Two Prince George’s County police officers were conducting a traffic stop when they found probable cause to search the vehicle, officials said. The driver, a man, was told to get out of the car during the search and stand with one of the officers.

At some point, officials said the driver then ran from that officer and jumped back into the car while the other officer was inspecting the vehicle.

The man was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries. Both Prince George’s County police officers were taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
