The charges stem from a hit-and-run crash that happened around 4:47 a.m. June 17, at the intersection of Muddy Branch Road and West Diamond Avenue.

Police said the crash involved a gray 2011 Honda CR-V and a pedestrian.

Investigators said they found that Carranza Castellon was driving north on Muddy Branch Road when, for reasons still under investigation, the SUV veered off the road, went into the grassy median and ran over Brian Roy Longaberger, 56.

Longaberger, whose address was unknown, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Around 11:30 a.m. that same day, Gaithersburg City police officers found a gray 2011 Honda CR-V with front-end damage near the scene.

MCPD’s Reconstruction Unit identified Carranza Castellon as the suspected driver in the hit-and-run crash, police said.

An arrest warrant was then secured on Wednesday. On Thursday, Carranza Castellon was arrested at Newark International Airport (EWR), just before he boarded a plane to Honduras.

Carranza Castellon is being held in Elizabeth, New Jersey, while awaiting extradition to Maryland.
