WASHINGTON (7News) — A man found guilty of helping lead a violent string of thefts at stores in Virginia, Maryland and New Jersey was sentenced to prison.
According to U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro, 36-year-old D’Marrell Mitchell was sentenced to 224 months in prison for his role in 19 robberies spanning multiple states.
“D’Marrell Mitchell and his crew turned pharmacies and cellphone stores into hunting grounds, terrorizing workers and customers all to feed a criminal enterprise that treated other people’s safety as an acceptable cost of doing business,” U.S. Attorney Pirro said. “He didn’t just participate in these robberies. Mitchell planned them, recruited others to carry them out, and pocketed the proceeds. That is the definition of a dangerous predator, and today’s sentence reflects it.”

His guilty verdict came after a six-week jury trial in October 2025, when he was found guilty of conspiracy to interfere with interstate commerce by robbery (Hobbs Act robbery), of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute controlled substances, and of nine counts of Hobbs Act Robbery.
According to court records, Mitchell and his co-conspirators committed at least 19 robberies, especially targeting pharmacies for opioids and cellphone stores for devices that they resold in Washington, DC. USADC said their string of crimes “terrorized more than 40 victims and netted over $300,000 in stolen narcotics and cellphones.”
Pirro’s office said Mitchell was one of the main organizers of the group and that he personally entered stores and assaulted employees during some of the robberies.
The other co-leader of the group, Ashley Gause, is set to be sentenced on August 20, 2026.
