Mangione questions McIntosh’s judgment over 2024 DUI case

Questions about a DUI case are at the center of the campaign for Baltimore County Council’s Fifth District as the election approaches.

Councilmember Nino Mangione shared court records on social media pointing to opponent Shawn McIntosh’s DUI case.

The records show McIntosh faced six charges from one incident, with several dropped and she received six months of unsupervised probation.

Mangione claimed the case reflects on McIntosh’s judgment. “I didn’t make the decision to get in a car or to drive drunk and endanger Maryland citizens. Shawn McIntosh did,” Mangione said. He added, “She has to answer and be held accountable.”

Mangione also accused McIntosh of being a candidate when the DUI occurred and using public campaign funds while on probation. However, McIntosh pushed back in a written statement. “The DUI I received on Dec. 13, 2024 was a one time mistake that I deeply regret and have been open about throughout the entirety of my campaign,” she said.

McIntosh also disputed Mangione’s timeline and the accusation about public campaign funding. “Mangione is blatantly lying that this incident took place while I was a candidate. Furthermore, my probation was completed before I even qualified for public financing,” she said.

When asked if he believed McIntosh broke any campaign funding rules, Mangione did not name a specific rule but cited concerns about her use of taxpayer money. “It’s just a question of judgment, a lack of accountability,” Mangione said.

Mangione stated he brought the case up now because he recently learned about the severity of the charges.

Voters in Baltimore County’s Fifth District will decide who represents them on the County Council on Tuesday.
