Maryland man accused of assault, stroking women’s hair on Metro released on bail

A Maryland man accused of assault and battery on a Metro train was released on bail after being arrested by Metro Transit Police, according to court records.

A social media video showed someone filming himself stroking women’s hair. Reports were made against Bryan Betancur, 28, acting inappropriately toward Metro customers, according to police.

Betancur was arrested late Monday night, police said.

Betancur had an active arrest warrant through the Arlington County General District Court for assault and battery offense on a Silver Line train at the Clarendon Metro Station around 10:09 p.m. on March 1.

Betancur was previously pardoned for his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riots after first pleading guilty in 2022, according to court records.

An affidavit showed that Betancur was on probation for a prior incident, but was approved to visit D.C. on Jan. 6 to hand out Bibles.
