Maryland State Police Aviation Command performed three separate aerial hoist rescues over the July 4 weekend.

The rescues occurred in Talbot, Baltimore, and Garrett Counties.

The first rescue occurred on July 3 in Talbot County, in which State Police said three 18-year-old women became stranded in deep mud and shallow water while jet skiing on Skipton Creek in Wye Mills.

Authorities said that because the area was inaccessible by rescue boats due to less than 12 inches of water and extremely soft mud, the Aviation Command was requested to conduct a hoist rescue.

All three women were uninjured, despite high temperatures and a heat index of approximately 115F at the time.

Later in the evening hours of July 3, State Police helped rescue two people who became stranded while tubing in Big Gunpowder Falls in Cockeysville.

The tubers, a man and a woman, were located in a remote location close to the shoreline of Big Gunpowder Falls after becoming stuck in the waterway and mud around 8 p.m.

Due to their location and the surrounding heavily wooded area, State Police were requested to perform an aerial hoist rescue.

On July 5 around 11:20 a.m., State Police rescued an injured person who fell in the area of Muddy Creek Falls in Swallow Falls State Park in Garrett County.
