BALTIMORE, MD (WBFF) — After a 37-year-old man died in a dirt bike crash on Tuesday night, Mayor Brandon Scott said Wednesday that his office wanted to address the root causes of dirt bike injuries — if not through increased police response, then perhaps through legislation.
“We need to understand the pain that family is going through but have a real community conversation about why we need to have folks operate in a different way,” Scott said at a Wednesday news conference. “We’ll be looking and talking with our state partners and others about, are there other ways for us, from a legislative way even, to get to the root of this problem?”
While dirt bike injuries are relatively common in Baltimore, the crash on Tuesday night was the first fatal dirt bike crash in the city in over a year and a half.
Baltimore Police said the victim was struck by an SUV while riding on Liberty Heights Avenue near the intersection with Druid Park Drive. Police responded to the crash at 8:48 p.m., and first responders pronounced the victim dead on the scene shortly after.
