Mentoring Male Teens celebrates 30 years in Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WBFF) — They’ve gone from boys to men — a Baltimore program is celebrating a milestone uplifting and supporting city youth.

Mentoring Male Teens in the Hood celebrated 30 years of mentoring boys ages eight to 18 during an event held at New Shiloh Family Life Center on Thursday evening.

Miles calls his young men “his kings.”

Founder Cameron Miles started with a dream and five young men. Since that time, more than 3,2000 young men have been loved, lifted and mentored.

“That’s the main thing that this program has to offer is one, teaching us that just because we come from the hood, we come from west Baltimore, east Baltimore, south Baltimore, you can still aspire to be a judge, an attorney. You can be the next president, if that’s what you want to be,” Dorrian Gross, a program graduate, said.

Miles said he couldn’t run the program without the support of the boys’ families, volunteers and his board of directors.

Gov. Wes Moore was the keynote speaker, and said the program sees Baltimore’s youth as assets to invest in, not problems to be solved.
