Around 8:30 p.m. on the date in question, officers responded to an apartment in the 900 block of Holgate Drive for a reported stabbing.
There, they found a man, later identified as Sye, holding a knife.
Sye did not comply with verbal instructions from officers to drop the knife, at which time an officer attempted to take it. Sye refused to release the knife and began punching at the officer with his free hand. At that time, multiple other officers fired shots, striking Sye.
Sye was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
