WASHINGTON (TNND) — Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem recommended on Monday that President Donald Trump should enact “a full travel ban on every damn country that’s been flooding our nation with killers, leeches, and entitlement junkies.”
It wasn’t immediately clear which countries could be included in a ban, and Trump shared Noem’s statement on Truth Social without comment.
“Our forefathers built this nation on blood, sweat and the unyielding love of freedom – not for foreign invaders to slaughter our heroes, suck dry our hard-earned tax dollars, or snatch the benefits owed to AMERICANS,” Noem continued on X, referring to Trump’s claim that Somalis are taking over Minnesota and stealing public funds. “WE DON’T WANT THEM. NOT ONE.”
Noem’s remarks come after the shooting of two National Guard members in Washington, D.C. by a suspect identified by authorities as an Afghan national. The man, who previously worked with the CIA during the Afghanistan War, was resettled in the United States through a program created for Afghans who assisted American forces.
On Thanksgiving, Trump announced a push to “permanently pause migration” from poorer countries and mentioned “reverse migration.”
Within days of the shooting, the director of U.S Citizenship and Immigration Services, Joseph Edlow, halted the asylum process for all migrants in the United States and began reviewing green cards for people from several countries, including the Middle East and barred Afghans from entering the country.
“USCIS has halted all asylum decisions until we can ensure that every alien is vetted and screened to the maximum degree possible,” Edlow wrote on X.
Noem said on Sunday that the Afghan national accused in the shooting was likely “radicalized since he’s been here in this country.”

“We do believe it was through connections in his home community and state, and we’re going to continue to talk to those who interacted with him,” she said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”
