BALTIMORE (WBFF) — Police are investigating after an officer was injured and a dog was shot during a reported dog bite incident Thursday afternoon.
According to preliminary information, officers responded around 2:58 p.m. on March 5 to the 6500 block of Hartwait Street for a report of a dog bite.
When officers arrived, they located two individuals who had been bitten, including the dog’s owner.
Police said the dog was not restrained when officers encountered it at the scene.
Two officers discharged their weapons, striking the dog.

During the encounter, one officer suffered a ricochet gunshot wound to the foot.
The injured officer and the dog’s owner were transported to area hospitals for treatment. Their conditions have not yet been released.
Animal Control officers also responded to the scene and took custody of the dog, which survived the shooting.
The department’s Special Investigation Response Team (SIRT) is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
