One person stabbed, another shot by police in Essex ‘family disturbance’

A man was shot and killed by officers following a stabbing in Essex on Wednesday, Baltimore County Police confirmed.

Officers responded to the 900 block of Holgate Drive for a reported family disturbance around 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 3.

The person who called 911 reported that she had been stabbed, according to authorities.

Upon arrival, police encountered an armed man inside an apartment building.

Officers shot the man in response to his actions, police said.

Authorities found a woman suffering from apparent stab wounds inside an apartment.

Both the woman and man were taken to local hospitals with injuries; the woman to her upper torso, while the extent of the suspect’s injuries were not immediately known.

One officer suffered an injury during the incident, and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Police said this “was an isolated incident and both individuals involved were known to one another.”

An investigation remains ongoing, and all officers were equipped with body worn cameras.

The Independent Investigations Division of the Office of the Attorney General is investigating the circumstances surrounding the officer-involved shooting.
