BALTIMORE (WBFF) — Just before a wave of football fans filled Federal Hill for the Ravens home opener Sunday, gunshots rang out overnight in one of Baltimore’s busiest entertainment areas.
WBFF has been following the ongoing public safety challenges in the city.

Baltimore Police said officers patrolling Cross Street around 2:10 a.m. Sunday heard gunfire and soon found a 17-year-old boy and a 26-year-old man with gunshot wounds near West Cross and South Charles Streets. Both were taken to the hospital for treatment while police blocked off the intersection to investigate.
One resident expressed concern about the violence.
“It’s a little bit concerning, you know, I think there’s a lot that’s going on,” a community member said.
As officers set up a crime scene, witnesses saw dirt bike riders performing tricks nearby.

Another person shared frustration, saying, “I think it’s sad, like, you know what I’m saying, like just the gun violence and it’s the youth…There’s no point in that.”
Residents in the area said the repeated violence is troubling.
It’s just unfortunate because we all come out here and have a good time. So, I just really don’t understand it,” one person said.
By the afternoon, crowds in football jerseys had replaced the police tape, but the shooting remained on residents’ minds.
“I really hate to see the way it has turned. It’s getting a little bit dangerous. And I hope the police down here are able to manage the situation and do well. Keep us safe so we can come out and have fun,” a fan in the neighborhood said.

Police have not announced any arrests or provided information about what led up to the gunfire.
“You have to be comfortable coming into the city because it’s a beautiful city and there are so many great things here and we have so much to offer and I think there could be some improvement,” another resident said.
“Hopefully, we can stop the violence. But it’s something any city you go to, you’ll run into. But hopefully, Baltimore can get it down, you know?” a neighbor added.
Baltimore Police are asking anyone with information to contact them as the investigation continues.
