A stabbing involving students near Perry Hall High School on Friday morning left one student with a non-life-threatening injury, prompting a police investigation and outrage from some parents over the potentially deadly incident.

Baltimore County police said the student who was stabbed was not taken to the hospital, but was recovering from the injury.

According to a letter sent to the Perry Hall High School community from the principal and released by school officials, the incident happened just before 8 a.m. on March 13. Principal Abbey Campbell said several students were involved in a physical altercation off campus and that one of the students involved had a knife. Another student was hurt and returned to the building, where the student was immediately seen by the school nurse.

Some parents said they were frustrated by the seemingly ongoing violence involving juveniles.

Julio Dela Rosa said, “I mean it’s ridiculous how things are going on right now you know with these kids.”

Another mother said, “I don’t even know how to react to that [the stabbing] because it’s not supposed to happen.”

A student identified as “Margo,” a senior who said she wanted to protect her identity, said she was relieved it did not happen inside the school.

“I’m glad it wasn’t in school. That makes me happy in the sense of…it’s not, I’m not happy that happened in general, but I’m glad it was off school. No one was seriously injured like that,” she said.

Concerned parent Afoleshade Alacishe said, “I get it, kids get into this understanding, yes, just like brothers and sisters, they can fight…Even having a weapon on them is something to you know to figure out what can be done about that.”

Dela Rosa also questioned why a student would have a weapon, saying, “Why would a kid have a knife? Why would even a kid carry any weapons that will be used to fatally hurt someone?”

Baltimore County Councilman David Marks, who represents the district where the stabbing happened, said in a statement that “the incident occurred off school grounds, but that should not detract from the seriousness of what happened….I hope anyone responsible with threatening another person is charged and prosecuted.”

Another parent, Brenton Joyner, said he hopes his child avoids that kind of situation.

“I know with my son, he tries to stay away from that type of stuff. So I’m hoping that he doesn’t get involved with any of that, being a victim,” he said.

Baltimore County police said they are actively investigating. The school’s administration said appropriate disciplinary action will be pursued for those involved.
