A Baltimore City High School basketball coach has been arrested on felony drug distribution and possession charges.

Jamar Briscoe, 35, is facing 10 criminal counts including felony possession with intent to distribute and conspiracy related charges.

Investigators said the case involves large amounts of suspected fentanyl and cocaine that they believe Briscoe and his co-defendant were acquiring for redistribution across the Baltimore area, according to court documents.

Briscoe was denied bond during his first court appearance inside Baltimore City District Court Monday.

During the bond hearing officials revealed Briscoe is a boys basketball coach at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute in Baltimore City, and has been in that role for the past two years.

Briscoe was arrested outside of an apartment building on West Forest Park Avenue in northwest Baltimore January 31.

In newly obtained charging documents, investigators said agents witnessed Briscoe and his co-defendant carrying large bags of suspected drugs into an apartment, and arrested both men when they came out of the building.

Investigators said Briscoe had on his person keys to the building and the specific apartment unit.

A search and seizure warrant was executed on the apartment.

Inside, investigators said agents recovered more than three kilograms of suspected cocaine and more than six kilograms of suspected fentanyl.

In the charging documents investigators noted as little as two milligrams or .002 grams of fentanyl is enough to kill a man, and this total amount represents potentially millions of fatal overdoses.

FOX45 News reached out to BCPS to confirm Briscoe’s employment status.

A spokesperson confirmed the request but has not yet provided any answers.
