PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md (7News) — The man suspected of gunning down another man in Landover died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound Friday morning after a chase that ended near Aberdeen Proving Ground, authorities said.
Prince George’s County police identified the homicide victim as Malcolm King, 41, of Silver Spring. Maryland State Police identified the suspect as Charles Glenroy Smellie Jr., 41, of Forestville.
Officers responded around 4:40 p.m. Thursday to the 6900 block of Stoddert Lane, where they found King outside suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said Smellie fled after the shooting.

Within hours, homicide detectives identified Smellie as the suspect and secured an arrest warrant. Investigators said the two men knew each other, and preliminarily believe the shooting stemmed from an ongoing clash over business-related things.
Around 8 a.m. Friday, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force notified MSP that they were chasing a homicide suspect on Interstate 95 in Baltimore County.
State police said the chase continued onto Maryland Route 152 into Harford County before ending near the gate of Aberdeen Proving Ground.
When troopers arrived, the pursuit had ended, and emergency crews were already at the scene. Smellie, who was the sole occupant of a white 2026 sedan, was pronounced dead.
Investigators preliminarily found Smellie suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound. No law enforcement officers fired their weapons, according to both PGPD and MSP.
Smellie’s body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
MSP’s Homicide Unit is leading the investigation into Smellie’s death, while PGPD continues investigating King’s killing.
