Rabid raccoon confirmed in Churchville, Harford Co. Health Department says

The Harford County Health Department announced that a raccoon in Churchville tested positive for the rabies virus on Tuesday.

Officials reported that the raccoon was found in the 600 block of Mahan Road and may have exposed pets or people to the virus.

Anyone who has pets or who may have been in that area and is worried about being in contact with the raccoon in the past is urged to contact the Harford County Health Department at 410-877-2300 for a follow-up.

The Harford County Health Department would like to remind the community of the following ways to protect themselves or their pets:

  • Always keep your pets on a leash when taking them for walks and supervise them closely in your backyard.
  • Ensure that all cats, dogs, and ferrets are up to date on their rabies vaccinations through your veterinarian or a local rabies vaccination clinic.
  • Make sure to cover trash cans and avoid leaving pet food outside.
  • Refrain from feeding, petting, or interacting with wildlife in any way.
  • If you notice any stray animal displaying unusual behavior—such as excessive affection, aggression, lethargy, or disorientation, notify Harford County Animal Control at 410-638-3505.
