Two 13-year-olds are in custody in connection with two armed carjackings in Baltimore County that happened over the weekend, police said Monday.

Baltimore County Police said both carjackings happened early Saturday morning between 6 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. — one was reported near the intersection of Greenspring Road and Reisterstown Road. The other was reported at York Road and Towsontown Boulevard near a strip of restaurants, a couple blocks from Kent Irish Pub.

Police said they found the suspects on Woodlawn Drive after they were involved in two armed violent crimes.

Conner Wienner, manager at Kent Irish Pub, said the latest incidents add to concerns about crime in the area, which has included the fatal shooting of a Towson University student last month near the Towson Circle.

“It’s obviously really unfortunate that this continues to happen,” Wienner said. “I mean, we just want it to stop. I mean we want this to continue to be a place for tourists to continue. And again, businesses, not just the Kent, but other businesses as well, are suffering because of the violence in the area.”

Wienner also said, “People can’t walk without having to continue to look over their shoulder and now apparently they can’t seem to drive without having to look over their shoulder.”

Residents also reacted to the suspects’ ages and the ongoing crime.

“It’s not exactly great to hear. I mean, you don’t really expect two 13-year-olds. They’re, I mean so young, you know, they have their whole life ahead of them,” Brian Li, a Baltimore County resident, said.

Shahkem Bagett, also a Baltimore County resident, said, “I mean, it’s something that obviously…Whenever you see crime rates increase or you see a lot of crime happening, you do want to do something about it that is constructive and in a positive way. But I’m not necessarily alarmed because at the end of the day, there’s always crime and there’s crime everywhere.”

Wienner said he believes police are working to address the violence.

“I mean, I know that the law enforcement is doing the best that they can. I mean again, I’m getting ready to go into law enforcement myself, so I know they’re doing everything that they can. You know, again, it’s the unfortunate circumstances,” he said.

It was unclear late Monday whether the juvenile suspects remained in custody. Police said the investigation is ongoing.
