Emergency responders were notified of the incident at approximately 2:15 p.m. in the waters behind Seacrets, a popular waterfront entertainment venue in Ocean City.

Officials identified the aircraft as a SeaRey, a two-seat, single-engine amphibious aircraft designed to operate on both land and water. Authorities said the plane landed on the bay after what appeared to be the detachment of one of its stabilizing floats, also known as a sponson.

The aircraft remained partially afloat following the incident, and no injuries were reported.

The Maryland Natural Resources Police and the U.S. Coast Guard are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Officials have not released information about the number of people aboard the aircraft or what may have caused the apparent equipment failure.
