CARROLL COUNTY, Md. (WBFF) — Ten-year-old Herbie Martin IV stayed up until 2 a.m., perfecting his lemon blueberry buttercream cake. On Wednesday night, it sold for $15,000 — the top bid at the Carroll County 4-H and FFA Fair‘s charity cake auction, which raised more than $100,000 this year.
The “Good Ole Carroll County Farm & Business Syndicate,” a group of local business owners, pooled funds to take the cake. Their $15,000 bid will go toward running future Carroll County 4-H and FFA fairs, and other related programs.
“All of the money goes directly back to keeping the fair operating,” said Amy Petkovsek, 44, superintendent of the cake auction committee.
Last year the top cake, an applesauce walnut, sold for $10,500 at the auction.
